Words

A week or two ago I posted about words I liked. Here is an addition to that list.

Esophagogastroduodenoscopy.

Why do I love this word? It's great to say! Say it! Esophagogastroduodenoscopy. Esophagogastroduodenoscopy.

This was also one of the 388 words/abbreviations that I memorized in 4 days for the interview for my current job. All they told me was I would have an abbreviation test, they didn't say which abbreviations so I pulled out the book that was given to me through my course filled with 400 of the most common abbreviations in medicine and started to study. Four days later I had complately memorized 388 of them and new the rest of them as a 'sorta' thing - sometimes I remembered them, sometimes I didn't.

Esophagogastroduodenoscopy was my favorite word to memorize. My mother was quite impressed that I could say it and spell it BACKWARDS.

The other word(s) that I loved was:

Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangiopancreatography (ERCP).

I could spell that one back and forth too.

My memorization was what got me the job. I clammed up and my typing speed was down from 120 wpm to 88 wpm and my transcription part of the test (which they sprung on me at the last moment) sucked but considering that I had no preparation for the transcription (as in I didn't know they would be making me do transcription) I guess I didn't do too badly.

After all - I did get the job. :)

Never you mind...with the status of my gut these days I just might have to go for one of these haha...

Or maybe it'll just be a simple garden variety "Endoscopy."
